Pattern of practice of physiotherapy in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) in Gujarat

Abstract
Purpose: To determine current physiotherapy practice in the Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) in Gujarat.
Method: A cross sectional survey was conducted across Gujarat in which 254 questionnaires were sent through emails or mobile App to physiotherapist who are working in cardiac ICU (intensive care unit). The questionnaire contained hospital proforma, physiotherapist profile, assessment and treatment techniques of phase I CABG patients.
Result: A total of 94 questionnaire were received with the response rate of 37.5%. More than 90% physiotherapists assess and treated patient preoperatively. Preoperative exercises consist of chest physiotherapy, educating patient about phase I cardiac rehabilitation. After surgery, 11% physiotherapist approaches patient on same day,60% on first post-operative day and 29% second post-operative day. On 1st post-operative day treatment consists of chest physiotherapy, relaxation and massage. On 2nd post-operative day, dangle, mobility exercises and standing and on 3rd post-operative day ambulatory training are in practice.
Conclusion: Physiotherapy treatment across Gujarat is fairly similar and the variations in the treatment may be due to not a similar curriculum between the institute of Gujarat.
