Abstract
ABSTRACT:
Background: Cerebral palsy (CP) is a developmental abnormality in which patients mostly have abnormal movement trajectories. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of balance and gait training in improvement of reach test in diplegic CP children with & without Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO).
Material and Methods: Twenty one children with diplegic CP were recruited & assigned into two groups of with and without AFO. All participants’ reaching test was assessed. Each subject was given balance and gait training for 4 weeks and post intervention reach test was measured.
Results: The mean change in distance measured by reach test from the baseline with AFO & without AFO is statistically significantly more post intervention. Mean change in distance measured by reach test from baseline with AFO is not statistically differ as compared to the patients without AFO.
Conclusion: Intervention is effective in improving reach performance, but there is no such differentiation in wearing AFO in the improvement of reach test.

Key words: Keywords: Cerebral palsy (CP), Reach performance, Balance and gait training, Ankle foot orthosis (AFO)
