Saving hopeless teeth with Hemisection - A descriptive report of 2 cases

Abstract
Hemisection is a viable treatment option for teeth which have been indicated for extraction due to
decay in half part of tooth or decay involving the furcation. It is mostly used in mandibular molars
due to the presence of two separate roots which can be dissected without compromising the strength
of remnant tooth structure. The present case report describes two such cases of mandibular molars
salvaged by performing conventional endodontic therapy followed by hemisection of the distal
roots and fabrication of a 3 unit FPD for the involved tooth and the posterior tooth along with the
empty space of resected root.
